Why we’re taking the Paid Leave Pledge (and why you should too)

Today, a wave of great companies arrived in Washington D.C. to discuss the Paid Leave Pledge — a commitment to improve our collective understanding of how paid family and medical leave impacts employees and business success. According to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the U.S. is the only country that has no legally mandated maternity leave. That’s why here at Limeade, we’ve decided to take the pledge and stand up for future generations.

THE PAID LEAVE PLEDGE

We’re thrilled to be a part of this group. We signed the Paid Leave Pledge to signal our commitment to offer paid family and medical leave programs to our employees. Along with this, we promise to track and publicly share data on the business impact of these policies. At Limeade, we believe that the best way to drive employee engagement is by authentically investing in the well-being of employees. Not only at work, but at home and all other parts of an employee’s life. That’s why we expanded our paid parental leave policy in 2018 from two weeks to eight weeks. We also provided the benefit to any employee who had a child the year prior. This policy change was important for our business, but most importantly, our people.

As an employee engagement company, we’re committed to helping customers create more inclusive cultures. That’s why we launched the Inclusion+ solution. Inclusion+ measures workplace inclusion, provides tangible recommendations to employees, managers and leaders and drives meaningful action to improve the employee experience. Inclusion and belonging is about welcoming, accepting and embracing all aspects of employees — from their work, physical and emotional, to social selves. We’re committed to an environment where employees can bring their whole selves — their hearts and minds — to work.

The Paid Leave Pledge isn’t just the right thing to do — it’s a sound business decision. Research shows companies with inclusive cultures are more likely to exceed financial targets and have better business results. We’re eager to collaborate with other great companies who have participated in the pledge and plan to contribute to the ongoing paid leave research.
