Fitness in the foliage: 3 ways to make the most of fall

Admit it: the best part of fall is the LEAVES!

As summer’s lush greens give way to russet, gold and flaming orange, you’ve got a perfect backdrop for hitting the outdoors. And if the colors don’t shift much in your neck of the woods, there’s always the crisp fall air (or a road trip!). To make the most of the fall season and get in a few outdoor adventures before winter hits, we’ve shared our three favorite ideas below. Inspire your employees to get outside by offering points in your wellness program for getting out and sharing about their experiences.

3 Ways to Make the Most of Fall

1. Take a Hike

The mountains are calling and we must go! If the hills are alive with color in your area, reward employees who hit the trails to get up-close-and-personal with the fall splendor. Websites like EveryTrail and Trails offer recommendations by location.

2. Tree Trek

There’s nothing like crunching leaves under your feet on a fall run or walk. Have employees record their steps with an activity tracker – and even post pics from their favorite outing. To stir up competition you can establish a unique hashtag for your company and encourage employees to post their top pics from Twitter or Instagram under the hashtag. Display top photos on your company intranet.

3. One Last Paddle

Summer may be over, but the temps in most places are still comfortable enough for some water action. See how many employees can squeeze in a few final strokes in a kayak, canoe or on a paddleboard. Research top places in your area and send out an email to employees letting them know where they can go. You may even be able to negotiate late-season discounts for your employees!
