The “Make Others Great” award was created to recognize employees who go above and beyond to help others do their best work through awesome collaboration and teamwork. Each month a nomination committee reviews submissions from fellow employees and selects the winner.
Cheers to our BIG shoe winner Chris Hand, Senior Platform Developer, for going above and beyond to earn this month’s “Makes Others Great” award!
What do you do?
From a high-level as a senior platform developer, my day-to-day work is around the performance, reliability and scalability of our system. I work on the Rock Solid team.
Tell me more about ‘Rock Solid’…
Our primary goal is to make sure the system stays up and performs well as we get a larger number of users.
How long have you been at Limeade?
A little over a year.
What has been your favorite thing about working here?
So far, having a job where you’re looking forward to coming in is really my favorite. Sounds kind of corny, but it’s true.
Where are you from?
Originally? I’m from New York. But I grew up in Japan. I say that because I was 19 or so when I went to Japan – so I say I “grew up” there because I got married there, had my first kid there…
How long have you been here?
I’ve been here since ‘96. Microsoft recruited me and brought my family here.
What do you like to do when you’re not here?
I do a lot of hiking, photography and love to spend time with my family. I have two kids – 17 & 20 years old.
Morning person or night owl?
Night owl, which is good because I’m also a full-time college student.
What are you in school for?
Business management and IT at Western Governor’s University. It’s a 4-year, online program and I’ll do my Master’s in Information Security after.
If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
Flying. I scuba dive and being able to have 360 degrees of motion underwater is really cool and feels like the closest I’ve gotten to flying.
Is there a Limeade value that really resonates with you?
They all do, but what’s going through my head at this particular moment is “Anything is Possible.” When I was going through the interview process with Henry (Limeade CEO) he was talking about his values and the company culture and that was one of the biggest reasons I chose Limeade. For me, Anything is possible means you’re not just going out to make money or to build software – you’re actually trying to help people and do something good.
Check out what Chris’ co-workers had to say about him:
Chris has gone above and beyond to ensure that the State team had a smooth launch and continuing success! As Tier 2 support, he came in on New Year’s Day to support our team. However, after his week of on-call Tier 2 ended, he kept coming to our daily scrums and came by our desks, in person, every day to check in with the Account Team. He asked if we knew of any problems, researched if we did, and consistently followed up to make sure everything was resolved. Now that’s teamwork 🙂
Thank you, Chris, for all of your hard work and dedication!
