How Luxury Living increased employee engagement and reduced turnover in one year through advanced listening
Founded in 2007, Luxury Living Chicago is a boutique, luxury brokerage focused on leasing downtown Chicago apartments and is comprised of a team of experienced licensed real estate brokers, leasing agents and marketing professionals. Luxury Living has worked with thousands of clients and provides market expertise and access to all luxury Chicago apartments.
Luxury Living prides itself on having a great company culture; however, it wanted to set a goal to enhance engagement and gain a better understanding of how people were feeling at work. The People Operations team sought employee software to help them further leverage their people as their greatest asset. They wanted to ensure employees were taken care of and enable them to live their best lives both at and outside of work.
“We wanted to be recognized as a great place to work. This required finding out what it would take to become that and ensure people feel supported and proud to work at Luxury Living.”
Maggie Levinsohn, People Operations Manager
In 2020, Luxury Living became a hybrid-first, but mostly remote company. The lack of team socializing caused employees to lose sight of the purpose and impact of their roles, consequently creating a dip in employee engagement.
“The People Operations team would do a weekly check-in, but we weren’t getting the meat of what was going on,” said Levinsohn.
To achieve its goal of creating a people-centric work culture, Luxury Living partnered with Limeade Listening to power its employee engagement strategy. It used the Engagement Survey and Key Driver Analysis (KDA) to lay the groundwork for its overall plan, and to ensure it was meeting its employees where they already were to increase participation.
“I think the Engagement Survey is a great baseline to really see how people are feeling. It also helped us figure out our survey strategy and the specific questions we should be asking and checking in on”, said Levinsohn. KDA results determined employees were looking for leadership to make jobs more meaningful, create more autonomy for their work, as well as more career development opportunities.
“We looked at some other platforms, but what we really liked about Limeade Listening was the ability to have anonymous conversations and reach out to people privately with follow-up questions from their text responses,” said Levinsohn.
Limeade Listening’s anonymous two-way conversation feature provided Luxury Living’s employees with the comfort to be honest with leaders about how they were feeling at work, knowing their identity wouldn’t be jeopardized. It also allowed leaders to dive deeper into responses to get to the root of employee disengagement.
Limeade Listening allows Luxury Living to collect consistent valuable feedback from employees that has resulted in numerous improvements to its day-to-day processes and culture. These key initiatives included:
Creating a formal quarterly goal planning process for managers and employees
Implementing a flexible PTO policy and increased communication and transparency about how it works
Quarterly mental health day
Updated and increased transparency about pay philosophy and requirements
The various employee-feedback driven initiatives have helped to increase Luxury Living’s employee engagement while boosting manager-employee relationships, benefits satisfaction, and ultimately reducing turnover within the first year of using Limeade Listening.
